Climate control -> Stationary climate control for your BMW i8 2014-2020
Climate control
CONTROLS
▷ Preselected departure times, refer to
page 170.
Ventilation
The stationary climate control can be switched
on with the BMW Connected app, refer to
page 171.
The air automatically exits through the vents to
the windshield, the side windows, the upper
body region and into the floor area.
The system switches off automatically after a
certain period of time.
If stationary climate control is used during the
charging process, less air conditioning capacity
will be required while driving. This optimizes the
range.
▷ Thumbwheel for variable opening and closing
of the vent, arrow 1.
▷ Lever for changing the air flow direction, ar‐
row 2.
Functional requirements
▷ Engine switched off and/or drive-ready state
deactivated.
Adjusting the ventilation
▷ Ventilation for cooling:
▷ High-voltage battery sufficiently charged or
charging cable connected.
Adjust the vent so that the air is directed to‐
wards you, for instance when the vehicle is
too hot.
If the high-voltage battery is heavily dis‐
charged, it can take some time after connect‐
ing the charging cable, until the stationary cli‐
mate control will be functional.
▷ Draft-free ventilation:
Adjust the vent to let the air flow past you.
▷ Departure time preselected: dependent on
the internal, external, and set desired temper‐
ature.
Stationary climate control
▷ Direct operation via iDrive: not dependent on
the external temperature.
Concept
Stationary climate control cools or heats the car's
interior prior to departure to a comfortable tem‐
perature.
▷ To ensure the starting capability of the vehi‐
cle, the stationary climate control may be au‐
tomatically switched off, for instance after re‐
peated switching on or due to an insufficient
state of charge of the high-voltage battery.
After the stationary climate control is
The interior temperature is lowered with high
cooling output.
The system can heat the car's interior if needed.
Snow and ice can be removed more easily.
switched off due to an insufficient state of
charge, charge the high-voltage battery and
switch the drive-ready state on and off. The
stationary climate control is available again.
General information
The stationary climate control can be switched
on and off directly or via a preset departure time.
▷ The vents are open to allow air to flow out.
▷ Direct operation, refer to page 170.

CONTROLS
The system promptly switches on before the se‐
lected departure time.
Switching on/off directly
Concept
The departure time is preselected in two steps:
▷ Set departure times.
The system can be switched on or off directly.
The system switches off automatically after a
certain period of time.
▷ Activate departure times.
A minimum of 10 minutes should pass between
setting/activating the departure time and the
planned departure time to allow a sufficient pe‐
riod of time for the climate control.
Via iDrive
The system can be switched on or off via iDrive.
1. "My Vehicle"
General information
2. "Vehicle settings"
If drive-ready state is switched off, changes can
be made on the Control Display. The departure
time change is a one-off change. Scheduled de‐
parture times are not adjusted. Settings for cli‐
mate control and charging process are also ap‐
plied for scheduled departure times.
