Emergency Stop Assistant
Principle
If the driver can no longer drive the vehicle
safely, the Emergency Stop Assistant helps to
bring the vehicle to a safe standstill.
General information
The Emergency Stop Assistant is not triggered
automatically. The system can only be trig-

Radar sensors monitor the area behind the ve-

When a vehicle approaches from the rear at a
certain speed, the system can react as follows:
When the system is triggered, the vehicle is
brought to a standstill in its own lane by use of
lane keeping.
▷
Where applicable, the hazard warning
flashers will be switched on.
▷
Where applicable, the PreCrash functions
are triggered.
Depending on the vehicle equipment and na-
tional-market version, the system includes a
lane change function.
With lane change function: on motorways or
motorway-like roads, the system steers the ve-
hicle to the side of the road or shoulder where
possible. On other roads or with high traffic
volume, the vehicle is brought to a standstill in
the current lane.
Safety information
Follow the safety information in the "Forward
Collision Mitigation" chapter.
Sensors

on the sides and rear.
Turning rear-end collision
