In entering your destination you can select from

Enter data only when the vehicle is sta-
tionary, and always give priority to the
Entering a state/province
1. "Navigation"
applicable traffic regulations in the event of any
contradiction between traffic and road condi-
tions and the instructions issued by the naviga-
tion system. Otherwise, vehicle occupants and
other road users may be endangered.<

state/province.
Entering a town/city
1. Select "Town/City/Postal Code" or the dis-
played town/city.
Entering a destination
manually
The system's word-matching principle makes it
easier for you to enter the names of streets or
towns, refer to page 133. This allows you to
enter different spellings and completes your
entry automatically, so that stored names can
be called up quickly.
1. Press the MENU button.

Entering a street without a destination
town/city
You can also enter a street without specifying a
town/city. In this case, all streets of the same
name in the designated state/province are
offered. The corresponding town/city is dis-
played after the street name.
To enter spaces:
> Select the
symbol.
The list gradually grows smaller each time
you enter a new letter.
If a town/city has already been entered, you can
negate this entry. This could be helpful in
instances where the desired street does not
exist in the entered town/city because it
belongs to another suburb, for example.
3. Move the controller to the right.
4. Select the name of the town/city from the
list.
If there are several towns/cities with the same
name:
1. "Navigation"
1. Change to the list of town/city names.
2. "Enter address"
2. Highlight the town/city: a preview map is
displayed.
3. Select "Street" or the displayed street.
4. Change to the list of street names.
3. Select the town/city.
5. Select "In" with the state/province currently
displayed.
Entering the postal code
1. Select "Town/City/Postal Code" or the dis-
played town/city.
2. Select the
symbol.
3. Select the digits.
4. Change to the list of postal codes and
towns/cities.
5. Highlight the postal code: a preview map is
displayed.
6. Select the letters.

7. Change to the list of street names.
Entering street and intersection
8. Highlight the street: a preview map is dis-
played.
1. Select "Street" or the displayed street.
2. Enter a street and intersection as you would
the town/city.
9. Select the street.
Entering a house number
After the street you can also enter the intersec-
tion or the house number.
You can enter any house number stored in the
navigation data for the street.
If there are several streets with the same name:
1. "House number"
2. Select the digits.

Storing a destination in the address
book
4. Select a house number or range of house
numbers.
Store the destination in the address book after

If the contacts with addresses from the
mobile phone are not displayed, they first
need to be checked as destinations, refer to
page 187.
Your current position can be stored in the
address book.

Destinations can be edited, for example, to
change the house number of an existing entry.

Last destinations
The last destinations are stored automatically.
These destinations can be called up and used
as a destination for destination guidance.

tions".
Special destinations
You can search for a special destination, e.g. a
hotel or place of interest, and start destination
guidance to the corresponding location.
The search can be narrowed by entering the
location and type of special destination.
The scope of information provided
depends on the particular set of naviga-
tion data you are using.<

Search for a special destination according to its
location relative to a locality or route.
Special destinations are listed according
to their distance from the current loca-
tion and are displayed with a directional
arrow pointing to the destination.

Special destinations are listed according
to their distance from the location where
the search is being performed.
> Destinations of the selected category
are displayed in the map view as sym-
bols. The display depends on the map
scale and the category.

search for the special destination:

take some time. The list can contain a max-
imum of 100 entries.

Displaying special destinations in the
map
To display symbols of the special destinations
in the map:
1. "Navigation"
2. Select the destination with the cross-hairs.

> To change the scale: turn the controller.

> To shift the map: move the controller in
the required direction.
> To shift the map diagonally: move the
controller in the required direction and
turn it.

Specifying the street
Entering the destination via
the map
If you only know the location of the town or
street, you can enter the destination using the
map.
If the system cannot recognize a street, it dis-
plays a street name in the vicinity or the coordi-
nates of the destination.
Interactive map
In the interactive map, the scale can be adjusted
and the visible map section can be shifted. In
addition, pressing the controller makes further
functions available:
Opening the map
1. "Navigation"
2. "Map"
A map section is displayed on the Control Dis-
play. The map shows the current position of the
vehicle.

Spell the entry if the language region and
the system language differ.
Say the letters smoothly, and avoid exag-
gerating the pronunciation and inserting
lengthy pauses between the letters.
Entering an address*
1. Press the
button on the steering wheel.

3. Wait for a request from the system.
4. Say the town or city, street and house num-
ber in a single sentence.

5. Continue making the entry as prompted by

6. If necessary, individually name the separate
components of the address, e.g. the town/
city.

Entering a destination by
voice commands*
1. {City} or {Spell city}
2. Wait for the system to prompt you for the
town/city.
General information
You can enter a desired destination via the
voice activation system. During the destination
input, you can switch between voice entry and
entry via iDrive at any time. To do so, reactivate
the voice activation system if necessary.
3. Say the name of the town/city, or name at
least the first three letters.
Depending on the entry, up to 20 towns/cit-
ies may be suggested.
You can have the possible commands

Countries, towns and cities, streets and
intersections can be said as whole words or
spelled in the system language, refer to

Identical-sounding towns/cities that can-
not be distinguished by the system are
compiled in a separate list and shown as a town/
city followed by three dots.
Example: to enter a destination in a US state
as a complete word, the system language
must be English.

6. Select the type of destination entry and
enter the intermediate destination.
The town/city can also be selected from the list
via iDrive: turn the controller until the town/city
is selected and press the controller.
Entering a street or intersection
The street or intersection is entered in the same
manner as the town/city.
Entering a house number
You can enter house numbers up to 999:
1. {House number}

2. Say the house number.
A maximum of 30 intermediate destinations can
be entered for one trip.
3. {Yes} to confirm the house number.

2. Select the type of destination entry and
enter the intermediate destination.

Destination guidance starts immediately.
Adding further intermediate
destinations

Further intermediate destinations can be

Storing destinations
4. Select the location where the intermediate
destination is to be inserted.
The destination is automatically added to the
list of last destinations.
Starting the trip
Planning a trip
After all intermediate destinations have been
entered:

Various intermediate destinations can be
entered for a trip.
Storing a trip
Up to 30 created trips can be stored in the trip
list.

The trip is stored in the trip list under the
entered name.
Word-matching principle
The system's word-matching principle makes it
easier for you to enter the names of towns or
streets. The system runs ongoing checks, com-
paring your destination entries with the data
stored in the vehicle as the basis for instant
response. The benefits for you include:
Starting a stored trip

3. Select the desired trip.

Names of towns entered may differ from the
official versions if you are using a spelling
that is customary in another country.
Changing trips
Example:
Changing the trip direction
Instead of the German spelling "München"
you can also enter the English spelling
"Munich" or the Italian spelling "Monaco".
Intermediate destinations can be displayed in
reverse order after destination guidance is
started.

When you are entering the names of towns
and streets the system will complete them
automatically as soon as enough letters are
available to ensure unambiguous identifica-
tion.

The system offers only those letters for
selection of name entries that are stored in
the vehicle. Thus, entry of erroneous or
unregistered names is impossible.
