Manual gearbox: stopping
Driving
1. Press the Start/Stop button when the vehicle
is at standstill.
Starting and stopping the engine
2. Engage first gear or reverse.
3. Apply the parking brake.
Ignition on/off
▷ On: press the start/stop but‐
ton.
Auto Start Stop function
Manual gearbox: switches the engine off auto‐
matically at a standstill to save fuel. As soon as
the clutch pedal is depressed, the engine starts
automatically.
Most of the indicator and
warning lamps are illuminated
for different lengths of time.
▷ Off: press the start/stop button again.
All indicator lamps turn off.
Steptronic transmission: switches the engine off
automatically at a standstill to save fuel. As soon
as the brake pedal is released, the engine starts
automatically.
▷ Radio-ready state: with the ignition switched
off, press on the on/off button on the radio or
press the start/stop button when the engine
is running.
Parking brake
Individual power consumers remain opera‐
tional.

The lever engages itself after pulling up.

1. Depress the brake pedal.
2. Press the start/stop button.

1. Depress the brake pedal.
2. Press the clutch and engage idle position.
3. Press the start/stop button.
Pull up the lever a bit, press the button and guide
the lever down.
Steptronic transmission: stopping
1. With the vehicle at a standstill, engage selec‐
tor lever position P.

Shifting gears
2. Press the start/stop button.
3. Apply parking brake if necessary.
When shifting into a lower gear, high engine
speeds can damage the engine. There is a risk of

material damage. Push the shift lever to the right
while shifting into the 5th or 6th gear.
Engaging D, N, R
Reverse gear
Engage this position only when the vehicle is sta‐
tionary.
To overcome the resistance, move the shift lever
firmly to the left towards the left and engage the
reverse gear with a gear shift movement for‐
wards.
▷ D drive position.
▷ N neutral.
Steptronic transmission
▷ R reverse.
Engaging selector lever positions
Selector lever returns to centre position in each
case.
Engaging P
Press the button to:
▷ Engage R.
▷ Shift from P.
Apply the brakes until ready to drive off, other‐
wise the vehicle will move when a drive position
or reverse gear is selected.
Press button P.

Only engage selector lever position P or R when
the vehicle is stationary.

Press the selector lever out of selector lever po‐
sition D to the left.
Turn indicator
Manual operation:
▷ To shift down: press the selector lever for‐
wards.
▷ To shift up: pull the selector lever backwards.
High-beam headlights, headlight
flasher, turn indicators, parking
lights
▷ On: press the lever beyond the resistance
point.
High-beam headlights, headlight
flasher
▷ Off: press the lever in the opposite direction
beyond the resistance point.
▷ Triple turn signal: lightly tip the lever up or
down.
▷ Indicating a turn briefly: press the lever as far
as the resistance point and hold it there for as
long as you wish to indicate a turn.
Parking light
Push the lever forwards or pull it back.
▷ High-beam headlights on, arrow 1.
The high-beam headlights are illuminated
when the low-beam headlights are switched
on.
▷ High-beam headlights off/headlight flasher,
arrow 2.
Illuminate the vehicle on one side.
▷ On: with the ignition switched off, push the
lever upwards or downwards beyond the re‐
sistance point.
▷ Off: press the lever back to the home posi‐
tion.

For optimal fuel consumption, the petrol should
be sulphurfree or have a low sulphur content.

Refuelling
The tyre inflation pressures are on the plate on
the door pillar.
Fuel tank cap
1. Tap the rear edge of the fuel filler flap to open
it.
After adjusting the tyre inflation
pressure
For the runflat indicator RPA: reinitialise the run‐
flat indicator RPA.
For the Tyre Pressure Monitor TPM: reset the
Tyre Pressure Monitor TPM.
Checking the tyre inflation pressure
Check regularly and adjust as necessary:
▷ At least twice a month.
2. Turn the fuel tank cap anticlockwise.
▷ Before a long journey.
3. Place the fuel tank cap in the holder on the
fuel filler flap.

Electronic oil measurement
Requirements
Depending on the current displays, the status
display appears with the engine running or after
at least 30 minutes of journey.

The button is located in the centre console.
Different messages are shown on the display,
depending on the engine oil level. Follow these
messages.

Switch off the ignition and park the vehicle safely
before topping up with engine oil.

Topping up
A voice connection to BMW breakdown as‐
sistance is established.
ConnectedDrive
Concierge Service
Phone numbers and addresses of hotels, emer‐
gency chemists etc., can be sent to the vehicle
and called directly or adopted as destinations in
the navigation system.
Do not top up engine oil unless a message is dis‐
played in the instrument cluster.
