requested from an authorized service center or
another qualified service center or repair shop.
Lights and bulbs
Safety information
Principle
DANGER
The bulbs and lights contribute significantly to
driving safety.
Contact with live components can lead to an
electric shock. There is a risk of injury or dan-
ger to life. Do not touch any components that
are under voltage.
All headlights and lights are designed using
LED technology at least.
In the event of a malfunction, the vehicle man-
ufacturer recommends having any necessary
work performed by an authorized service cen-
ter or another qualified service center or repair
shop.
Warning
Vehicle batteries that are not recommended
can damage vehicle systems and impair ve-
hicle functions. There is a risk of accident, in-
jury, and property damage. Only use vehicle
batteries recommended by the vehicle manu-
facturer. For information on suitable vehicle
batteries, contact an authorized service cen-
ter or another qualified service center or re-
pair shop.
Safety information
Warning
Intense brightness can irritate or damage the
retina of the eye. There is a risk of injury. Do
not look directly into the headlights or other
light sources. Do not remove the LED covers.
Registering the vehicle battery in
the vehicle
Headlight glass
The vehicle manufacturer recommends hav-
ing an authorized service center or another
qualified service center or repair shop register
the vehicle battery to the vehicle after the bat-
tery has been changed. Once the battery has
been registered again, all comfort features will
be available without limitation and any Check
Control messages displayed which relate to
comfort features will disappear.
The inside of the headlight glass may fog up in
cool or damp weather. Condensation will dis-
appear after a short time when driving with the
lights on. The headlight glass does not need to
be changed.
If, despite driving with the headlights switched
on, moisture such as water droplets increas-
ingly forms in the light, have the headlights
checked.
Hazard icons
The following hazard symbols can be found on
the vehicle battery:

No smoking, no open flames,
no sparks.
Warning
Battery chargers that charge the vehicle bat-
tery via sockets or cigarette lighters in the
vehicle may overload or damage the 12 V
electrical system. There is a risk of injury
and risk of property damage. Only connect
battery chargers for the vehicle battery to the
jump-start terminals in the engine compart-
ment.
Wear safety goggles.
Keep away from children.
Risk of chemical burn: wear
gloves, do not tilt battery.
Charging the vehicle battery
To charge the vehicle battery, first switch off
the engine, then use the jump-start terminals
in the engine compartment.
Flush acid splashes with wa-
ter immediately. In the event of
contact with the eyes or swal-
lowing, seek a physician imme-
diately.
With mild hybrid technology: Open the hood
before charging the vehicle battery.
No direct daylight, no frost.
Additional information:
Jump-start terminals, refer to page 364.
Follow the operating instruc-
tions.
Power interruption
After a power interruption, some equipment
needs to be newly initialized or individual set-
tings updated, for example:
Explosive gas mixture. Do not
close any openings of the bat-
tery.
Initialize the parking brake.
With memory function: Save the positions
again.
Charging the vehicle battery
Time: Update.
Principle
Date: Update.
Make sure that the vehicle battery is always
sufficiently charged to ensure that the vehicle
battery can be used for its entire service life.
With glass sunroof: Initialize system.
Additional information:
A discharged battery is indicated by a
red indicator light.
Initialize the parking brake after a power inter-
ruption, refer to page 129.
Charge the vehicle battery when the drive-off
power is insufficient.
Deep sleep mode
Use deep sleep mode for long stationary peri-
ods.
The following circumstances can negatively af-
fect the vehicle battery's performance:

Mild Hybrid technology
Fuses
Principle
General information
The fuses are located at different places in the
vehicle.
Part of the Mild Hybrid technology is a battery
that works with a voltage of 48 volts. Mild Hy-
brid technology can lower the fuel consump-
tion.
Information on the fuse layout and the posi-
tions of the fuse boxes is available on the In-
ternet:
Safety information
Safety information
DANGER
Contact with live components can lead to an
electric shock. There is a risk of injury or dan-
ger to life. Do not touch any components that
are under voltage.
Warning
Incorrect and repaired fuses can overload
electrical lines and components. There is
a risk of fire, injury, and property damage.
Never attempt to repair a blown fuse. Do not
replace a nonworking fuse with a substitute
of another color or amperage rating.
General information
The battery for mild hybrid technology is lo-
cated below the cargo area floor. On vehicles
equipped with mild hybrid technology, do not
remove the cargo area floor or fold up the front
part.
Replacing fuses
The vehicle manufacturer recommends having
the fuses replaced by an authorized service
center or another qualified service center or
repair shop.
Additional information:
Cargo area floor, refer to page 293.
Notice
Do not exchange or work on the battery for the
Mild Hybrid technology.
Disposing of old batteries
Have old batteries disposed of by an
authorized service center or another
qualified service center or repair shop,
or take them to a collection point.
Transport and store full vehicle batteries in an
upright position. Secure the battery so that it
does not tip over during transport.
