Vehicle features and options Adaptive recuperation
This chapter describes model-specific equip-
ment, systems, and functions that are currently
available, or may become available in the fu-
ture, even if they are not present in the vehicle.
Principle
Adaptive recuperation supports an anticipatory
and comfort-oriented driving style.
The system decides based on the situation
if and how much the energy is recovered
through recuperation or if the vehicle coasts.
Additional information:
Vehicle equipment, refer to page 8.
Depending on the strength of the recupera-
tion, the vehicle is decelerated differently while
coasting.
Increasing the range
Principle
General information
Various sensors analyze the current driving sit-
uation, e.g., the distance to the vehicle in front.
The vehicle contains comprehensive technolo-
gies for reducing energy consumption and for
maximizing the range.
Adaptive recuperation is available depending
on the equipment and national-market version.
There are some actions you can take to in-
crease your range:
Remove unnecessary cargo from the vehi-
cle.
Functional requirements
The system active under the following condi-
tions:
Remove add-on parts, e.g., a rear carrier,
after use.
Selector lever position D is engaged.
Brake pedal not depressed.
Close the windows while driving.
Check the tire pressure regularly and in-
crease it as necessary.
Accelerator pedal not operated.
Dynamic Stability Control is activated.
Use pre-conditioning before driving.
Anticipatory driving and letting the vehicle
coast more often.
Activating/deactivating adaptive
recuperation
Adaptive recuperation activates when all func-
tional requirements have been met.
Deactivate functions that are not required,
e.g., rear window heating.
Have the vehicle serviced regularly.
Depending on vehicle equipment and national-
market version, adaptive recuperation can be
deactivated/activated manually on the control
display.

General information
An anticipatory driving style helps the driver
to use the function often and supports the en-
ergy-saving effect of coasting.
Configuring the recuperation level
The recuperation level can be adjusted.
Additional information:
Coasting is automatically adapted to the re-
spective driving situation.
Depending on vehicle equipment, “coasting” is
displayed in the Live Vehicle menu as “Efficient
coasting”.
Driving in detail: eDRIVE, refer to page 139.
Additional information:
Display
Current driving condition, refer to page 170.
Display in the instrument cluster
Adaptive recuperation can be displayed on the
instrument cluster.
Exemplary driving situations
If you can travel a certain distance without any
foreseeable need to brake, it is beneficial to
coast.
Additional information:
Power gauge, refer to page 162.
The following exemplary driving situations may
be suitable:
Display on the control display
The adaptive recuperation can be displayed on
the control display.
Rolling on a straight downhill route without
obstacles.
Coasting on a distance without obstacles.
Additional information:
Avoid late or strong braking.
Current driving condition, refer to page 170.
Functional requirements
System limits
Adaptive recuperation cannot be used, or can
only be used to a limited extent, in the follow-
ing situations:
Selector lever position D is engaged.
The brake has not been applied.
The accelerator pedal has not been
pressed.
When Active Cruise Control is on.
Dynamic Stability Control is activated.
If driver assistance system sensors are de-
fective, dirty, or covered.
System limits
Coasting cannot be used, or can only be used
to a limited extent, in the following situations:
Coasting
While Active Cruise Control is active.
Principle
If driver assistance system sensors are de-
fective, dirty, or covered.
The electric drivetrain makes it possible to roll
without consuming energy. This driving condi-
tion is referred to as coasting.

Overview
Principle
Button in the vehicle
The system provides assistance for an antici-
patory and comfort-oriented driving style. For
this purpose, map information and sensor data
is used to analyze the current driving situation
such as upcoming speed limits and vehicles
driving ahead. Based on this information, the
driver receives notices for an efficient driving
style early on. The efficiency of the driving style
is evaluated in the control display and shown
in three categories.
My Modes
General information
The system has different displays to support
the driver with an efficient driving style.
Selecting the driving mode
Functional requirements
Selector lever position D or B is engaged.
1.
Press the button.
Efficient mode is activated.
2. "Switch mode"
3. Select the driving mode.

Configuring Efficient mode
Power gauge
When the Efficient mode is activated, the dis-
play changes to a special configuration.
1.
Press the button.
2. "EFFICIENT"
Depending on the equipment, some system
information can also be displayed in the Head-
up display.
3. "Settings"

DRIVING TIPS
In addition, a notice to coast in advance is dis-
played.
System limits
For example, the function is not available in
the following situations:
While Active Cruise Control is active.
With trailer towing.
The efficient range of the power gauge is col-
ored blue. Additionally, the bonus range will be
displayed.
Efficiency evaluation
General information
The efficient range is adjusted depending on
the driving situation.
The efficiency of the driving style, e.g., acceler-
ation, is evaluated on the control display and
shown in three categories. The current trip is
analyzed.
If the power gauge moves within the blue
range, the current driving style is efficient. The
display will change to gray if the driving style is
inefficient.
Functional requirement
This function is available in Efficient mode.
Bonus range
A modified driving style helps
you extend your driving range.
Calling up the efficiency evaluation
1.
Apps menu
The range extension is dis-
played as the bonus range in
the instrument cluster.
2. "Vehicle"
3. "Live Vehicle"
If the bonus range is shown in gray or is hid-
den, the current driving style is inefficient.
Additional information:
Live Vehicle, refer to page 152
The display turns blue as soon as all condi-
tions for energy-saving driving are met.
Display on the control display
The display of the efficiency analysis shows
the efficiency of the driving style.
The intervals for resetting the bonus range de-
pend on the settings of the trip data.
The more efficient the driving style, the larger
the bars of the evaluation categories.
Display in case of inefficient driving
style
In contrast, a reduced area will be displayed
with an inefficient driving style.
When driving above the efficient range,
an arrow will be displayed.
For instance, this is displayed for the
following situations:
Excessive acceleration.
Excessive speed.

DRIVING TIPS
Max Range
Principle
Depending on the national-market version, the
Max Range mode enables the range to be in-
creased through the following measures:
The maximum speed is limited to
60 mph/90 km/h.
The drive power will be reduced.
The comfort functions are restricted, e.g.,
air conditioning or seat heating are deacti-
vated.
With Max Range mode, the maximum range
can be increased by up to 20%.
Functional requirements
The accelerator pedal is not depressed
fully.
The Sport Boost function is deactivated.
The defrost function is deactivated.
Activating/deactivating Max Range
1.
Press the button.
2. "EFFICIENT"
3. "Activate maximum range" or "Deactivate
maximum range".
4. If necessary, "Activate maximum range"
System limits
The achievable additional range depends
on the driving style and environmental con-
ditions.
If visibility is limited, e.g., due to condensa-
tion on the windshield, it may be necessary
to disable Max Range mode in order to use
the climate control functions.
