Status display  
Charging status display  
The control display can show information on  
the temperature of the high-voltage battery  
and whether it is ready for DC charging.  
Indicator light on the charging socket

This information can be permanently displayed  
using the widgets.  
Additional information:  
The charging status is indicated on the indica-  
tor light on the charging socket.

Charging status  
Starting the charging process  
1. Engage selector lever position P. Set the  
parking brake, if needed.  
Light  
Meaning  
White  
Charging cable can be con-  
nected.  
2. Set charging mode or schedule charging  
process.

page 295.  
Yellow  
Charging cable is locked.  
Flashing yel- Charging process is being  
low  
prepared.  
3. Switch off drive-ready state.  
Blue  
Charging process paused.  
4. Connect the Mode 2 charging cable to  
the domestic socket outlet or the Mode 3  
charging cable to the port at the AC charg-  
ing station as needed.  
Flashing blue Charging process is active.  
Flashing red Fault in the charging process.  
5. Connect the charging cable to the vehicle.  
Green  
Charging process is complete.  
Connecting the charging cable, refer to  
page 289.  
When the vehicle is locked, the indicator light  
goes out after some time.  
6. Lock vehicle if it is unlocked.  
When the vehicle is unlocked, the blue indica-  
tor light flashes continuously. The other indica-  
tor lights turn off after some time.  
After the charging cable connector is plug-  
ged into the high-voltage charging socket, the  
charging cable is locked automatically.  
Press the button on the vehicle key to  
check the charging state. The charging status  
is indicated on the indicator light. In some  
cases the vehicle is locked.  
Additional messages about charging status  
can be shown on the instrument cluster or on  
the mobile device using the My BMW App.

A target value in percent can be set for charg-  
ing the high-voltage battery.

5. Select the desired settings:  
When a lower target value is set, the charging  
time may be shortened.  
"Immediately": the charging process  
starts as soon as the charging cable is  
connected.  
General information  
A target value of 80 % is recommended for  
fast charging and optimal service life of the  
high-voltage battery.  
"Time slot": If a departure time is set, a  
time frame for charging can be set, e.g.,  
to charge using a cheap electricity rate.  
Target values below 20 % cannot be set.

A time frame can be set for the charging proc-  
ess, e.g., to charge with a cheap electricity rate.

5. Select the desired setting.  
The vehicle can also start the charging process  
before the selected time frame begins or end  
it after the selected time frame finishes. The  
starting point of the charging process is ad-  
justed so the vehicle can be as fully charged as  
possible and, if applicable, its climate adjusted  
by the departure time.  
Permissible volume of DC charging  
When the vehicle is charged at a DC charging  
station, the noise emission during the charging  
process can be limited, for instance to comply  
with the local noise level restrictions. A limita-  
tion of the noise emission can lead to longer  
charging times.

The charging process can be stopped at any  
time by removing the charging cable and con-  
tinued at a later time by connecting the charg-  
ing cable. For example, so that other people  
can use the electrical connection in the mean-

time, or in order to avoid excessive strain on  
the electrical connection.  
Display Meaning  
Charging the vehicle with a Mode 2

Charging the vehicle with a DC  
charging cable.  
Continuing the charging process  
If the charging process is interrupted, for in-  
stance due to a temporary power failure, the  
charging process will continue automatically  
after the interruption.  
Current charging capacity.  
Icon indicates that the maximum  
charging capacity of the vehicle has  
been reached.  
When the vehicle is charged at a public charg-  
ing station, the charging process may not con-  
tinue automatically after an interruption.  
Maximum charging current strength  
or currently set current limit.  
Ending the charging process  
1. Remove the charging cable from the vehi-  
cle.  
Charging cable locked.  
Charging cable unlocked.  
Set charge target.  
Detach, refer to page 290.  
2. Stow the charging cable as required.  
3. Press the charging socket flap closed until it  
engages.  
4. Lock vehicle if it is unlocked.  
Departure time set.  
Goodbye screen on control display  
When drive-ready state is switched off, a menu  
is shown on the control display, in which,  
among other things, some settings can be ap-  
plied for charging via iDrive.  
One-time departure time set.  
Air conditioning activated at depar-  
ture time.  
Displays in the instrument  
cluster  
Flashing: Pre-conditioning is turned  
on.  
If standby state is on, the charge state indica-  
tor on the instrument cluster shows the high-  
voltage battery charge.  
Blue icon: Reduced charging power

Departure time  
The set departure time will be deactivated if  
the departure time was ignored three times in  
a row.  
Principle  
For optimum range and air conditioning, the  
departure time can be set before parking the  
vehicle.  
Climate control  
General information  
With a set departure time, the vehicle is pre-  
heated or precooled if air conditioning is set.  
The following settings for vehicle air condition-  
ing are possible:  
Activate pre-conditioning immediately.
